Profile porn ahoy!

As far as I'm concerned, Cuba Tornado Scott is an honorary Rat, and I mean that in the best possible way. After a long drought leading up to the Oscars push for House of Gucci, she came through with some wonderful behind the scenes material as part of her documentary about the making of the movie. It looks like she had the chance to have a small photo shoot with each of the actors on the day that the promo photos were being taken, and 14 minutes of that was with Adam; she made every moment count, with a delightful series of photos of him dolled up in his costume.

They're all great, some serious, some playful, some of him using his hands to talk, but this is the one that spoke to me the loudest. As I mentioned in the work in progress notes on twitter, it would be dynamic even just as a silhouette, with the drama of that profile, the slash of the lens across the bridge of his nose, and the angle of the set of his shoulders.

But then there's all the details revealed by the reflection of that brilliant white backdrop; the subtle furrow above his brow, the wash of light through the lens of his glasses catching on the tips of his lashes, the delicate folds of his eyelids with the corner tilted up in amusement, and the plane of his cheekbone. The way the light runs along the edge of his nostril, the long lines of his dimples that reveal a tiny smile otherwise hidden in shadow, a tiny scar under his lip, the firm jut of his chin, the soft underside of his chin, and even in the subtle fuzz of the nap of the wool of his suit, just where the line of his shoulder meet the collar. I love how the fan of the folds in the skin on his neck leads our eyes up to his earlobe, peeking out from the sun-tipped waves of that gloriously realistic wig.

But mostly I love that all those details reveal a quiet happiness that you'd miss if you just looked at the drama of the silhouette.

Photo used for reference was taken by Cuba Tornado Scott as part of the House of Gucci behind the scenes documentary, with thanks to AdamDriverCentral for sharing it with us on twitter.

About 8.5 hrs of drawing time. I was so fixated on the problem presented by those pinstripes that I skipped over my usual routine of finishing as many details on his face as possible before working on his clothes, and almost clean forgot to map his constellations. Forget Adam Driver's moles, ME?? (almost!) In my defense they're very hard to see, what with this being mostly about the profile and his face only visible in very faint and indistinct back lighting. But I did spangle him!
