In this little scene we see Jacques defending his friend Jean's actions from the censure of their liege lord. There's an easy rapport between the two men, despite their difference in station; Pierre is on a quiet rant about Jean's many failings, and Jacques gently but firmly interrupts him to state that despite all of these faults, he considers Jean a friend, and believes him to be loyal. Pierre implies that loyalty alone is hardly enough to salvage the wreck of the rest of his character, and releases Jacques to do what he thinks is best.
The length of Jacques' hair and the familiarity of their banter suggests that this happens late in the timeline, but it's shown immediately after the loss at Limoges, which was seven years before Jacques gives his oath of fealty to Pierre, and THAT, in a movie that moves mainly in a linear fashion, implies that it happens very early on. As contradictory as all of that is, I don't really care, because I love this scene to bits, and I'm so glad they found a way to keep it in.

About 5 hours of drawing time for this one; the reference was blurry enough that I could release the need to capture every tiny detail, and it turns out that only having to put a few moles in makes things go a lot faster.
