Two of Us Now {art}

Basically I drew this because I wanted needed to.

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe as Jamie and Claire Fraser, from the Outlander series.

“Don’t be afraid,” he whispered into my hair. “There’s the two of us now.”

Drawn with a digital tablet in GIMP using a promo photo for the Starz production as reference.

Next time I have got to pick a reference that does NOT have that cowl; much as I love it, it's nearly been the end of me twice now, never mind the tartan!

Yes, my icon is almost the same pose. I remember what an ordeal Claire's cowl was for your last drawing. I'm sure you're ready for something less challenging now. :)

Almost! I should go find that one. I chose the one I did because I wanted that defiance/possession she's portraying with that hand on his chest which says, "MINE." And his expression is defying us to take her from him. It's delightfully mutual!

Oh man, that cowl. It's gorgeous and fantastically complicated for such a simple knit pattern, lol. I'm looking forward to NEW challenges! :D And I'm so pleased to know you'd like to see more!

I occurred to me after my last comment with this icon, that fur would probably be harder to capture in a drawing than the cowl was. ;)

Oh yes, I'd love to see more. I'm always amazed at people who have the ability to draw. I can't do it at all. I;m just a paint-by-numbers kind of artist. LOL

Yes and no! The hard thing about the cowl is that it's a regular pattern that's twisted, so you have to decode the pattern and then map where it changes. I used a grid to keep me from wandering too far off track. The fur is more amorphous, so the hard part is getting the texture, but it's hair, and I know how to do hair :D Still, it would be fun! I do think I'd like to try drawing Ned Gowan next, but we'll see what happens.

And YAY! I really am happy to know you'd like more! <3 TBQH this is probably one of the best pieces (I think) I've ever managed, so we'll see if I can keep it up, lol.

Oh gracious! This is absolutely gorgeous work. The textures on the cowl are so well done I feel like I could touch it and feel how soft it is. Brilliant!

For the cowl I used a really soft edged brush, but for the tartan, the coats, and his vest I actually made separate texture layers. I discovered while doing this one that I actually really like putting texture onto fabric.
