By now it should be obvious that I've gone and fallen for another show.

And I'm genuinely pleased with this drawing, which is not something I feel like I can honestly say all that often.

This piece was an effort on my part to learn to draw Sam's face better, and to aid in that I used a technique I'd never tried before to attempt to keep me on track with the likeness. And as much as I wanted it to not be so good, because setting up the grid is kind of a pain, I have to admit that using a grid really, truly, does make it easier to get the likeness right (you can see the grid in the gif I made of the WIP shots).

Thank you to Miranda Penn Turin with Emmy Magazine for taking the amazing photo of Sam that I used as a reference!

Thanks also to Lord Huron for creating the Strange Trails album, which was playing on repeat in the background while I drew this. I will forever associate this drawing with that whole album, but especially "The World Ender." :D

Fantastic work!! That grid really helped hold it together, eh? Amazing likeness - and I love the leather jacket seams and designs!! I kept thinking his hands were too small, but realized he's hiding them in his sleeve/glove, LOL! Tricky! LOVE IT CELLO!!

I really didn't want to like the grid, I really really didn't. I hate having to set it up, and until I learn how to make it bend to my will it seems like it's really inflexible. BUT DUDE. That was the least trouble I've EVER had capturing a likeness, and holy crap getting the folds and detail in the jacket was so much easier too. (LOL, yes, it's one of those thumb-holes-in-the-long-sleeve coats).

It's wonderful and it's great to see the progression. The detail in that jacket is stunning. I don't even watch Outlander and I'm suddenly a fangirl.

\o/ Job well done, then! Thank you! The grid was worth it's metaphorical weight in gold while doing that jacket, the designer of it put so much detail on the damn thing, lol. The best part is who is IN the jacket though. :D
