The beauty of promotional stills is that they are very clear, so much better than screencaps, especially these; in glorious 4K, you can even see how the light is catching on the finest of hairs along the bridge of his nose. This is balanced, of course, by the (relatively mild) horror of promo stills; they are entirely free of context, which means I'm just guessing what he's thinking and feeling in this moment, based on contextual clues both in the photos and in the trailer.

In this case, I'm thinking this happens fairly early on in the story, since Commander Mills is still in most of his space suit, minus the helmet. It's more obvious in the larger, original photo, but he's crouched in front of what looks very much like a giant ribcage draped in dessicated hide. And, given the look of dawning horror on his face, brows drawn up and together in concern, not out and away in wide eyed fear, I'm thinking he's furiously putting two (those bones) and two (some kind of noise and/or sound) together, and I'm pretty sure he's desperately hoping that this time it doesn't equal four. And that means I think this is probably just before he first sees the "something alien out there" that he's been worried about.

Adam had to have been roasting in that spacesuit costume. His face is absolutely shining with sweat, there are beads of it visible on his forehead, and I had to make liberal use of my pink overlay to capture the flush that spreads from his forehead, around his eyes, down the full length of his nose, and all the way to his chin. I suspect the humidity was high that day, too; just look at the abandon with which the tiny hairs on the crown of his head are curling.

He's going to spend a lot of this movie sweaty and desperate, I suspect. The Driver Hive is going to lose it's collective fannish mind.

Photo used for reference was a promotional still for "65" taken by Patti Perret.

About 19.5 hrs of painting time. This one was a challenge on all kinds of fronts. It's one thing to accurately render neatly styled waves, but this tangled mess, fuzzed up in the humidity, took some doing. I also wasn't sure if I'd be able to get the colors the way I wanted them, but I did get there in the end, and I'm glad I took the time and trouble to do it.
