A recurring comment that Adam made during Burberry Hero promo interviews was that, despite having taken months to prepare himself for this shoot, he was still surprised at just how physically demanding it ended up being. Early mornings to catch the very first dawn light, windsprint after windsprint down packed sand to the water, and swimming for goodness only knows how many hours, not to mention working with horses; he seems to have genuinely enjoyed every minute of it, but I have to think that by the end he was pretty well wiped out.
The timestamp on the photo I used for reference says that it was taken at about 5pm on the last day of the shoot. The tiny bags he's got under his eyes are the most obvious sign he's tired; after all, even an extraordinary actor can't completely control puffy eye tissue. But despite how exhausted he must have been after 4 long shooting days at the beach, Adam manages to translate that low ebb of energy into looking supremely settled in his body. He's not carrying any tension in his face, his brow is utterly unlined, with nary a furrow, dimple, or crinkle to be found anywhere else either, save for the faint tracks of his crow's feet at the outside corner of his eyes and fanning over the apple of his cheek. His chin is tucked down just a touch; when combined with the intensely direct gaze, blank expression, and relaxed set and tilt of his shoulders, this pose exudes a quietly self-assured confidence.
Which, when you're selling a fragrance that's supposed to symbolize being courageous enough to fully be yourself, is exactly what you'd want.
Photo used for reference was taken by Mario Sorrenti on 16 Sep 2019 for the Burberry Hero 2.0 campaign released on 1 Aug 2022. I would like to thank whomever had the brilliant idea to have his forelock drape over his nose like that, just like a horse's would.
About 25 hours of painting time; I thought I'd never be done mapping those constellations, scars, water drops, and sand speckles.
