Genial gently disheveled giant vibes.

One of the things that makes Venice unique, is, of course, the fact that no cars are allowed within the city at all; all the "taxis" are open air boats that putter from dock to dock. An amusing result of this, of course, is that longer haired stars arriving for their photocall frequently look a little more tousled than usual, and Adam is no exception. Add in the fact that one of his nervous habits is to run his fingers through his hair and, well, let's just say that Ms Amy Komorowski earns her keep by making sure that his hairstyle doesn't go completely to pieces.

I keep coming back to paint him at this event; he was just so... affable. Smiling, and seemingly relaxed, which is not at all usual for Adam, who has a well known discomfort with and dislike of red carpet events. His 2014 appearance in Venice was marked by a much more typical intense set of nerves which radiated through every photo I've seen; he did indeed look like a prince, but one that was getting married to a princess he'd never met & wasn't sure he liked.

This iteration of Adam has clearly learned a few things in the intervening 5 years, and seems to have a much firmer grasp of what to expect; I suspect it's that familiarity which allowed him to relax into the insanity of it all, letting the circus that is a huge international film festival whirl around him without ruffling his calm. Or it might just have been him flexing those prodigious acting muscles. It's hard to tell, but I hold out hope that he was genuinely able to enjoy the spectacle for what it was.

That autumn also marked, for me, a sea change in his appearance. Gone is the baby-faced 20 year old from his Girls era, and gone too is the young lion of the Logan Lucky/TLJ era that followed. Here we have Adam solidly moving into his middle age, fine lines, dimples that never fully unfold, silver hairs, and all. Some of those things fade a bit when he's more sleek, but most of them are here to stay, and I'm not sad about it.

They're all just tiny bits of evidence telling the story of a life well lived, of those experiences that allowed him to smile at the cameras with such calm confidence on that day.

Photo used for reference was taken at the 2019 Venice Film Festival during the "Marriage Story" photocall on 29 Aug 2019 by Franco Origlia.

About 9.5 hours of drawing time for this one.
