I'm signing up of course, because it's always a lot of fun. Plus, this is the last one, EVER.

Anyone need an artist?

You serious? O_O

To which part? That it's the last one, or offering my services an an artist? Yes, it's the last one, she says so in the FAQ at the very top here.

As for the artist offer, absolutely! I prefer having more time to work on the art, and getting involved at an earlier stage worked well for me last year with both Paperlegends and the RPF BB.

Yeah, I knew this was going to be the last one. She mentioned it in a journal post some time back.

I meant that lil "Anyone need an artist?"

:D Yes, I'm totally serious. I don't have a writer yet. Of course, this is probably because I haven't formally ASKED yet, lol.

LOL, I am sure it's because you haven't asked. Writers will clamor for you! I know I would.

You ARE participating this year, right? RIGHT? :D Because I loved your fic last year!

Yeah, I am, most definitely. I just have to settle firmly on what I want to do. I have an idea but I am uncertain as to whether it's worthy of PL.

Really? You liked my fic last year? I figured I went just a bit too dark with that one. Granted, the prompt for it was originally intended for the [livejournal.com profile] dark_fest so, naturally it was a bit on the harrowing side!

ARE YOU KIDDING? Did I forget to leave it comment love? It was GREAT. It was harrowing! That's what made it so wonderful! Angst with resolution!

(ps, LJ keeps doing the varnish error thing on me, so I'm sorry if this gets duplicated...)

Yeah, I think you did, but that's cool. I'm glad you liked it :D

Angst is pretty much my default setting. I shall def be doing something angsty, I just can't seem to manage "light and fluffy" in anything longer than 1-2k!

Angst as a default setting TOTALLY WORKS for me. I'm already looking forward to it!

I'm thinking about signing up *wibbles*

I'm wondering if it's better to try to find an artist to work with or wait to be assigned?

I know some people pair up early - do you have any experience with that?

Date: 2013-01-05 05:51 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] altocello.livejournal.com
SIgn up! It's a blast!

You can go either way on pairing early with an artist. If you think it will motivate you to finish, and you know someone that you work with well, go with them. If you're not sure you'll finish, and don't think having a commitment to a fellow fan is enough to get you over the hump, then wait until the official pairing happens, and you'll be more confident you can finish because by then your rough draft should be done-ish. And you won't feel bad if you can't finish somehow, cause you won't have left anyone hanging.

I did it both ways; the first year, I didn't know anyone, really, so I did the artist matching. And, for artists, it's like Black Friday, which is my least favorite shopping day of the year. I mean this in the "you have to break down the door and stomp on anyone in between you and the prompt you want" sense. I posted my claim at 4:03 am, and there were already 14 claims above me. Amph didn't get any of her first 4, possibly 5, choices. It was IN. SANE. As an author, you just sit back and watch the circus, lol. I would say please-oh-please beta your summary, and make it more than one sentence. As an artist I am much more attracted to something that gives me images in my head, and for that I need WORDS. Also, please don't bash art styles; it's a real turn off for artists of any style when someone says they "hate" something (not that I think you would, but I had to put it out there, it's happened before). Saying you'd "prefer" something is much better.

The second year, [livejournal.com profile] gfeather and I found each other really early on. I was her beta AND her artist, and it was great! I got to avoid the high anxiety of matching, and I had more time to let the ideas marinate in the brain pan. It meant I was more relaxed about getting the art done, and I was done earlier, which was also good. I got to do an extra piece that wouldn't have happened otherwise (Strangely Beautiful, if you're curious). So, for me as a slower turnover artist, matching very early on was a good thing. I am going to try to do the same this year. Only, feather's idea needs sewing skills for art this time, and I don't think I'm up for that. LOL.

Oh dear. I went a wrote a book. Well, I hope that somewhere in all the blather I answered your question?
