I know some people pair up early - do you have any experience with that?

Date: 2013-01-05 05:51 am (UTC)From:You can go either way on pairing early with an artist. If you think it will motivate you to finish, and you know someone that you work with well, go with them. If you're not sure you'll finish, and don't think having a commitment to a fellow fan is enough to get you over the hump, then wait until the official pairing happens, and you'll be more confident you can finish because by then your rough draft should be done-ish. And you won't feel bad if you can't finish somehow, cause you won't have left anyone hanging.
I did it both ways; the first year, I didn't know anyone, really, so I did the artist matching. And, for artists, it's like Black Friday, which is my least favorite shopping day of the year. I mean this in the "you have to break down the door and stomp on anyone in between you and the prompt you want" sense. I posted my claim at 4:03 am, and there were already 14 claims above me. Amph didn't get any of her first 4, possibly 5, choices. It was IN. SANE. As an author, you just sit back and watch the circus, lol. I would say please-oh-please beta your summary, and make it more than one sentence. As an artist I am much more attracted to something that gives me images in my head, and for that I need WORDS. Also, please don't bash art styles; it's a real turn off for artists of any style when someone says they "hate" something (not that I think you would, but I had to put it out there, it's happened before). Saying you'd "prefer" something is much better.
The second year,
Oh dear. I went a wrote a book. Well, I hope that somewhere in all the blather I answered your question?
