Happily, the folks at Burberry decided that now would be a good time to announce yet another, even more intense, variation on their Hero scent, complete with a new-to-us photo from that iconic photoshoot on the beach on Tenerife in 2019, featuring Adam in all his bare-chested, lean-muscled, sand-speckled, and sea-soaked glory.

He's standing with his body facing to our left, his left shoulder nearest us, head turned to meet our gaze. The artistry of his groomer, Amy Komorowski, is on glorious display; Adam's hair is just wet enough to tease into damp spikes, and arranged into a beautiful dishabille that is anything but random. I love the swoop of the one curl just at the corner of his left eye, how it fans out, and then curves back in toward his cheek, echoing the swell of his cheekbones. Sunlight, angled low and shining from behind him, is sparking on the edge of his jaw, the twisted rope of muscle on the back of his neck, and the broad plane of his shoulderblade. The subtle swells of the muscle fiber groups of his deltoid are visible on his shoulder, under the generous scatterings of a galaxy's worth of freckles and moles that also dot that solid slab of a pectoral. I'm especially fond of the one really big freckle near the top of his shoulder that has a bit of a tail to it.

Other than the gentlest of knitting in his brows, and the faint rumples on his chin, the muscles of his face are entirely relaxed, with no hint of a smile or frown, the dimples and crinkles quietly quiescent. What I find extraordinary, aside from Adam's egregious beauty, is the sense of vulnerability shining through the still blankness of this expression. I think it has to do with how he's holding our gaze; there's a wariness to the depth of it, something about how he's rounding his eyes just a little, a subtle sense of emotional fragility and sensitivity held in balance with his more obvious physical strength.

Photo used for reference taken by Mario Sorrenti on 16 Sept 2019 for the Burberry 3.0 marketing campaign released on 21 Feb 2024.

About 24 hrs of painting time.
