Claire is absolutely a BAMF, and I totally agree that this is a huge part of why we love her; we want to be her! We want to be unafraid, or at least brave enough, to tell anyone who gets in the way of something we have to do to fuck the hell off. And the fact that Jamie, for all of his intelligence and sheer physical presence, is literally under her sway doesn't hurt either. Somehow Jamie manages to not be feminized, even though he's inhabiting a classically feminine role, and that's yet ANOTHER meta I shall have to do, I suppose, lol. I have thoughts about that, though most of those are covered in that other meta I referenced. But, suffice to say that Jamie Fraser is undeniably male (yum), undeniably strong, and just as undeniably completely owned by his fierce, bamf, headstrong, intelligent, clever, caring, and amazing wife.

And yes, I love them as a pair. I love how they kick ass and take names when it's the two of them together. I love that they're still THEMSELVES even when they're together, but that the whole is greater than the sum of them separately. I do wonder, though, what would happen to Jamie if Claire were truly taken away again. There are hints in this book, when she falls so terribly ill, and she makes her choice not to die, but to stay; she stays because she knows he'll die if she leaves him. And he says as much, not to long afterwards. They've woven so far into each other at this point that while they're still distinct, there are bits of the "super-them" that are too deeply entwined to survive without the other.

And I'm going to have to leave that there because I'm 10 min late in leaving to get my DD from school, lol!
