Commander Mills {art}
We're pretty sure he's not going to make it, but we're still so glad to see him.
The Rats have been rejoicing for the last couple of days with the release of the official trailer for "65," the long-awaited and much-delayed mystery of a movie helmed by Beck and Woods. And what a doozy of a trailer it is! Accidental time travel, dinosaurs, space guns, and a man defending a little girl with his life against the dangers of the world they find themselves stranded on. We've only seen a little more than 2 minutes of Commander Mills in action, and we love him to bits already.
And, after nearly two years of seeing Adam in movies that always seem to have him buried under at least one prosthetic or another, it's a delight and relief to FINALLY get to look forward to seeing him looking like himself. A very buff version of himself, no less!
This particular moment was in the teaser trailer; having been woken by the perimeter alarm being tripped, Mills is on high alert, crouched, keeping a hand on his young companion as he pushes her slightly behind him protectively while he reaches for his gun. It's clear that he's quietly terrified, but also very focused; his brows may busy trying to find his hairline, lifting his upper eyelids such that his eyes are open so wide that you can see the entire circle of his iris, but his gaze is firmly fixed on the back of the cave. The way the tip of his tongue is touching his teeth makes me think it's an unconscious focusing gesture, a bit like when someone sticks their tongue out between their lips while balancing on one foot; he's concentrating on getting his weapon as quickly and quietly as he can.
It's clear he's going to do everything he can to keep her safe. Fingers crossed for the screenwriters giving him a happy ending too; it's a long shot, but I do prefer to live in hope!
Photo used for reference was a screencap of the teaser trailer for "65" taken and edited by empressrey on twitter, used with her permission, & which I cropped a bit closer for compositional reasons.
About 5.5 hrs of painting time.
